Hachiko: A Dog's Story (2009)

It is difficult not to fall in love with a dog's innocent behavior, especially when the love for his master is the most important thing in his life. "Hachiko: A Dog's Story" is an adorable dog to watch and although it takes a lot of time to get a canine actor to play a role, the results can sometimes be a little disappointing. We've done the surprise face at the sight of an intelligent dog in front of a camera before and to take that step hoping to awe the audience just because it is based on a true story is not a very safe bet.

Maybe, if we were in the 20's when it supposedly happened, viewers could be a little more touched than now. I personally wasn't and regardless the affection I actually felt for the dog, the whole thing is a little been-there-done-that sort of excitement, making "Hachiko: A Dog's Story" nothing more than an over emotional attempt to discuss loyalty. I love dogs and I think they make better comedies than dramas. But if you believe they do make a statement worth watching, be my guest. That could be your next family film to discuss over Christmas dinner.
